Industrial Drying Oven - Powder Coating Equipment | Ketao

Essential Pre-Coating Equipment

Industrial Drying Oven

Remove Moisture Before Coating

A critical step between pretreatment and powder coating. Ketao drying ovens remove surface water and moisture to prevent coating defects like pinholes, bubbles and poor adhesion.

  • Prevent coating defects (pinholes, bubbles)

  • Fast moisture removal (80-120°C)

  • Gas, diesel or electric heating options

  • Integrated with pretreatment line

What Is a Drying Oven and Why Do You Need It?

A drying oven is a heated chamber installed immediately after the pretreatment line.
After parts go through degreasing, rinsing and conversion coating, water droplets remain in recesses,
joints and complex geometries. If you powder coat wet parts, you will see coating defects.

The drying oven solves this problem by:

  • Heating parts to 80-120°C to evaporate surface water quickly

  • Creating controlled airflow to carry moisture away from the chamber

  • Ensuring parts enter the coating booth completely dry

  • Preventing pinholes, bubbles and adhesion failures in the final coating

⚠️ What happens without a drying oven?

Water trapped in recesses will turn to steam when the part enters the curing oven, causing pinholes,
bubbles and poor adhesion. Many coating failures can be traced back to insufficient drying.

Common Question

Drying Oven vs Curing Oven: What's the Difference?

Many buyers ask if they can combine both functions. Here's a clear comparison to help you decide.

Aspect Drying Oven Curing Oven
Purpose Remove water after pretreatment Cure powder coating (cross-link)
Temperature 80–120°C 180–220°C
Position in line After pretreatment, before coating booth After coating booth, final step
Dwell time 5–15 minutes 10–30 minutes (depends on powder)
Parts condition Wet (after rinsing) Dry with powder coating
Air quality requirement Standard (moisture exhaust needed) Clean (no contamination on coating)
Can they be combined? ❌ Not recommended. Different temperatures, positions and cleanliness requirements mean separate ovens give better results.

💡 Can you skip the drying oven?

If your parts are very simple with no recesses (like flat sheets), you might use forced air blow-off instead of an oven.
But for most real-world parts—with holes, joints and complex geometry—a drying oven is the only reliable way to
prevent coating defects.

Trying to save money by skipping the drying oven usually leads to high defect rates and rework costs that far exceed
the oven investment.

Why Choose Ketao Drying Ovens?

We don't just sell ovens—we design complete pretreatment and coating systems that work together.

🏭

We Use Our Own Equipment

Ketao runs 5 powder coating lines in our own factory. Every drying oven design is proven in real production, not just on paper.

This means we understand the importance of reliable drying and have optimized our oven design based on years of daily operation.

🔧

Complete Line Integration

We design the drying oven as part of your complete system—pretreatment, drying, coating and curing—so everything works in sync.

No mismatch between oven capacity and line speed, no gaps in the conveyor, no temperature control conflicts.

🌍

Proven in Many Countries

Ketao drying ovens are running in Turkey, Algeria, India and other markets with different energy types and climate conditions.

We adapt the design to your local fuel availability, ambient temperature and energy cost structure.

Drying Oven FAQ

Common questions buyers ask about drying ovens in powder coating lines.

1. Can I skip the drying oven and go directly from pretreatment to coating?

+

Not recommended for most parts. Water trapped in recesses will cause coating defects (pinholes, bubbles, poor adhesion).
A drying oven is a small investment compared to the cost of rework and customer complaints.

2. Can one oven do both drying and curing?

+

No. They operate at different temperatures (drying: 80-120°C, curing: 180-220°C) and serve different purposes in different positions.
Combining them would compromise both functions and lead to defects.

3. How long do parts need to stay in the drying oven?

+

Typically 5-15 minutes depending on part thickness, geometry complexity and the amount of water remaining after pretreatment.
We calculate the exact dwell time during the design stage based on your specific parts.

4. Which heating type is most economical: gas, diesel or electric?

+

It depends on your local energy prices. In most cases, gas (LPG or natural gas) has the lowest operating cost.
Diesel is convenient if gas infrastructure is not available. Electric is cleaner and easier to install but usually has higher running costs.
We can help you calculate the total cost of ownership for each option.

5. How much space do I need for a drying oven?

+

Oven size depends on part dimensions, required dwell time and line speed. For example, if you need 10 minutes drying time
and your conveyor moves at 2 m/min, the oven needs to be about 20 meters long. We design the layout based on your workshop drawing
and can optimize for tight spaces.
